From the recording Seed
I had a memory of our family car having its windscreen broken on a long drive - and the rain streamed in. My sister and I were probably under 5 at the time. This inspired a song about humanity and the planet and how if we could just create harmonious relationships with those closest to us every day then the whole world has a chance of working. Well, that and treating Mother Earth with extreme care. It's a childhood story, a call to humanity and an uplifting reminder of our interconnectedness.
Lyrics
THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS
Two little girls in the backseat
Fighting over who remembers
All I can tell you is
Nobody is thinking
It could possibly be
Be their fault
And isn’t this
Isn’t this just the perfect kind of
Metaphor for the whole world?
Far apart but right there
With the windscreen broken
And the rain, it’s soaking
Now the sky has opened
Up and shown us
Who really calls the shots
And always did
Look what we’ve got
THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS
The very moment
It all came crashing down
The race was over
All I can give you is
Residue from burning out
I’m searching for who else
Could be at fault
And isn’t this
Isn’t this just the perfect kind of
Tragedy for a cold heart?
To warm and be reborn
With the windscreen broken
And the rain, it’s soaking
Now the sky has opened
Up and shown us
Who really calls the shots
And always did
Look what we’ve got
THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS
Give me, give me every
Turn to follow
Stop, go
Fast, slow
Moving with the tides
In the same direction
What will it take?
Pray to Goddess
It’s not too late
Now the planet’s broken
And the fires we’re stoking
Leaping higher
When will we be
Woken up?
And as the clock ticks louder
Every passing hour
Is one less
With the windscreen broken
And the rain it’s soaking
Now the sky has opened
Up and shown us
Who really calls the shots
And always did
Look what we’ve got
THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS
