The Album I Was a Man comprises 10 original songs by Karen Jacobsen, ranging in theme from equality, love, loss, freedom and listening to our inner voice. With cinematic and piano driven performances by Karen, the melodies are timeless and the recordings feature lush and layered female vocals. Produced by Matt Anthony (Darius Rucker, Shinedown, Pat Monahan of Train) at Engine Sound in New York City, recording began remotely in 2022 across time zones and distance between Karen's half a world away location near Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and Matt's studio in the North-East of the United States (9560 miles away). When asked about the message behind her music, Jacobsen says “I am in the most creative period of my career, exploring the intersection of songwriting and spirituality, with many of my songs inspired by and even arriving during my meditation practice. Beginning a twice daily practice of Transcendental Meditation - T M - in 2019, the effect on my creativity was immediate."

Cinematic, piano-driven songs with powerful female vocals and inspiring messages; Karen Jacobsen’s new album THE SLIPSTREAM is the musical hug the world needs right now.

The Album The Slipstream comprises 10 original songs by Karen Jacobsen, ranging in theme from humankind’s quest for meaning to songs of comfort and healing. Couldn’t we all use a little of that right now? With cinematic and piano driven performances by Karen, the melodies are timeless and layered female vocals add a transcendent quality to the recordings.

Produced by Matt Anthony (Darius Rucker, Shinedown, Pat Monahan of Train) at Engine Sound in New York City, recording began remotely in late 2021, immediately after the release of Karen’s 10th studio album READY FOR WHAT I CAME HERE FOR. With an abundance of material, and a creative focus enabled by the pandemic, the songs were recorded across time zones and distance between Karen's new location half a world away near Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and Matt's studio in the North-East of the United States (9560 miles away).

When asked about the message behind her music, Jacobsen said “for many of us, these times have been a jolt, followed by an opportunity to take a stark look at our lives and what we want to experience. I personally know many friends who have made big decisions about their futures; from where they live to what they spend their time doing. It’s been an era of getting clear about what is truly important, while managing the devastating global news cycle.”

On October 9th 2012, Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard AC delivered a powerful speech addressing misogyny and sexism that reverberated around the world. Her impassioned words carried the strength and power of a long history of persecuted women. Voice in a billion devices (including the original Aussie voice of Siri), International Songwriter, Concert Artist and Professional Speaker Karen Jacobsen was so inspired by this iconic speech, she composed a pop orchestral work setting those words - word for word - to music (with permission). The live concert world premiere performance of 'Misogyny Opus' is on April 29th 2023 featuring Karen Jacobsen as soloist with musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia.

"…be prepared to lose your heart to Jacobsen, or at the very least, leave singing her lovely, melody-driven songs." New York Press

Melting Moments is filled with songs that are catchy, melodic, timeless pop, kind of like Billy Joel would sing if he were a tall, blonde Australian Woman. Jacobsen wrote, performed and produced the record at Defy Recordings with Robert Smith in New York City, with top session musicians including fellow Aussie, Guitarist Ben Butler (Sting/Bruce Springstein/Suzanne Vega/Mariah Carey) and New Zealand’s Richard Hammond (Broadway's Hamilton/Joan Osborne/Erasure) who played Bass Guitar in her band for six years.

Karen Jacobsen has shared the stage with Neil Sedaka, Norah Jones, Christopher Cross, Cyndi Lauper, Jars of Clay, and her songs have been on U.S. network television shows including Dawson’s Creek, Passions and Around the World For Free.

Karen has sung anthems at major sporting events in the U.S., and performed Advance Australia Fair in her home state, Queensland at the TriNations Wallabies vs South Africa game at Suncorp Stadium in 2009.

“Melting Moments” was released on the Kurly Queen label on August 28th, 2009.

Press...

"Karen’s voice is pure and sweet. Listening to her, I was reminded of The Corrs; there’s that same joy and optimism to the songs. There are very few edges here, although the opening track “Kissing Someone Else” does hint at a darker side. To some the lack of grit may seem like a flaw, but I think there’s something lovely about an album which lifts you up rather than dragging you down. The playful “Merry Go Round” is particularly captivating, while “So Fast” is another folk-tinged pop standout.

This is a really polished album. I was impressed to see Karen didn’t just add her pretty voice, but her production skills and songwriting prowess as well. Both are excellent. With Melting Moments, Karen Jacobsen shows us that her talents go far beyond directing traffic." Lauren Katulka, Sounds of Oz

*This album was released in the USA in 2006 as Kissing Someone Else with an identical tracklist.
